1) Choose one side as the top of the headband (the side that has the nicer "top stitching"). Once that is determined, use the palm of your hands to gently curve the headband like a baseball cap. Do this for a few minutes and avoid sharp bends. However, please be patient as this is the most important step. You are basically working in the leather and shaping the plastic under the leather. Feel free to use strength during this step as it is unlikely that the headband will get damaged even if you are rough with it. Pay attention to curving the ends of the headband as well.

2) Choose either the "L" or "R" block and grasp it with one hand. Your other hand will be used to hold onto the headband. Gently twist the block from side to side until you hear a cracking noise. Don't worry about the noise as it is just the glue bond breaking up. After that, firmly pull the block off.

3) The block is now off.

4) Slide the stock headband off.

5) Begin inserting the metal band through your new headband, and push it all the way through. The fit may be tight since the stitching was made tight to insure durability and aesthetics. You may have to use all your strength to push this through but don't worry, nothing is going to break. Be gentle, but firm. If you do get stuck, shape the headband (curve it) around the metal band even if the job is at the half way mark. Basically, JUST PUSH HARD!

6) When the headband is all the way through, use your palms to shape the entire headband and even attempt to "tighten" the clamping force. At first, the headband may feel a little loose around your head but this will tighten up in a few days, after the headband has had time to adjust to the metal band.
